There are two INA3221 modules generally available today—a purple one, that has been available for some time, and a black one that has more recently come on the market. Apart from the colour, the two are very similar in appearance, but they are internally different.
While I am yet to use either in an actual application, I believe that the black module addresses the shortcoming of the purple module in that it does not connect the negative inputs of the three channels to the same ground. This is, apparently, important if the module is used to monitor, for example, the performance of a solar panel, battery and load in a typical solar-powered application.
While the PCB footprints of the two modules are identical, the Schematics are also slightly different, more logically matching the physical configuration of each module.
