      With my original prototyping boards, I tried to pack as much optional functionality as possible onto a single board. More recently, however, I’ve changed tack a little and started to create small, single function daughter boards that can be plugged into a basic project board as required, in much the same way that I had accommodated a range of sensor modules.

      The first peripheral function daughter board was a 5V boost converter. This satisfied the power needs of my 5V sensors, but I also had a requirement for a 12~24V supply for a water pressure probe. My goal then was to create a 24V boost converter in the same form factor as the 5V module so that either could be plugged into a common header, depending on the voltage required. I steered away from using a trimpot to set the output voltage simply to keep the daughter board as small as possible.

      To this end I have recently created a 24V boost converter daughter board based on the Sunrom SX1308 IC (which can actually be configured to deliver up to 28V as required).
